🎨 Hand Block Printing Process
🪵 Carving the Wood
A pattern is first drawn on transfer paper, then painted on wood with white chalk. Carved by a machine for the large pieces, by hand with small chisels for the smaller or more intricate parts.
☁️ Preparing the Table
The plain fabric is laid out on the 6m (for Sarees) or 10m long (for material) table. Natural colours are applied to the carved wood to be transferred onto the fabric — in a rhythm passed through generations.
🌬 Drying & Washing Process
Waiting for the fabric to completely dry, then sent to washers exclusively engaged in post-processing of printed fabrics. The washing is a multi-stage process during which the fabric loses the extra colour. Washing makes them softer and ready to use.
